    @Mike

    RE: CJ — yeah, that happened to a lot of people tonight. Sounds like he might have either the flu or appendicitis. http://www.ibabuzz.com/warriors/2010/02/25/watson-out-vs-denver/ If it’s the latter AND you’re in a tight playoff race, I might sub him. Otherwise, I’d hang onto him.

    Meanwhile, Hawes might get a bump in playing time w/ Jason Thompson hurt now. I know… all very random, unpredictable, and annoying. Again, if CJ’s flu/whatever isn’t serious, I’d hang onto him. But if it is serious, I’d probably pick up Gibson — who should produce while Noah is still on a minutes limit — and then by the time CJ and Noah start getting healthier (and Gibson starts coming to earth), I’d pick up CJ or another hot FA.

    Morning Steve,

    what you think of the Noah injury situation? Should I cut ties and pick up a drew gooden or robin lopez? I’ve dropped to 4th place in my league, still in playoff hunt, but team is struggling right now, I need to fix things for playoffs, trade deadline over.

    Hey Steve,

    I know this is going to be a question with an answer that might change by the time you get to it, but I had one quick question.

    I’m still second in my league, but I’ve lost the last two weeks due to my players starting to sputter. That being said, I’m considering making a couple of changes.

    Here’s my team:

    PG: D-Will
    SG: Lou Williams
    G: Westbrook
    SF: Carmelo
    PF: D. West
    F: Blatche
    C: Howard
    C: Nene
    Ut: Okafur
    Ut: M. Miller
    BN: Gallinari
    BN. J.R. Smith
    BN: Taj Gibson

    I picked up Gibson over Gooden because I like his blocks, FG%, and rebounding numbers. I also like his Fantasy Playoff schedule. I think this is the right choice, but I’d like a second opinion.

    Players I’m concerned about are Gallinari and J.R. Smith (two whose names I’ve mentioned in the past).

    That being said, here are the players I’m considering. It’s a standard H2H League, and I’m kinda in a mindset of: What would Steven do?

    Anthony Morrow
    Drew Gooden
    Kirk Hinrich
    Rasuel Butler
    Thompson (injured, but is he worth a pickup considering how well Hawes and the Kings have played in his absence?)

    Morrow especially looks tempting, but I’m having a difficult time cutting ties with J.R. and Gallinari even though they sort of demand it.

    @Joe

    Back from the rainforests… It might be too late now, but Gooden is probably worth picking up if you’re in danger of falling out of the playoffs.

  6. #6 by fantasy hoopster on March 7, 2010 - 6:15 pm

    @Alan

    How’s your status now? Looking back, DG and JR both had solid weeks. Then again, so did all the guys you mentioned (aside from JT). As much as I love Mike Miller and his playoff sked, if he continues to put up mediocre stats you might want to sub him for Morrow, Gooden, or Hinrich depending on what you need.

  7. #7 by fantasy hoopster on March 7, 2010 - 6:20 pm

    @enrico

    If you need across the board production, Diaw has been very solid and underrated lately. If you need 3’s, I’d probably pick DG over Morrow, although go with the hot hand. Gibson is a nice pickup too, but you’re already pretty stacked at REB/BLK now.

  8. #8 by Alan on March 7, 2010 - 8:12 pm

    Hey Steve,

    I ended up dropping Gooden for Gibson. As much as I like Gooden’s productivity, he doesn’t really produce in Steals or Blocks (something that Gibson is a little better for). Also, Gibson’s PF schedule is a bit better, if I remember correctly.

    JR is having a good week, and I have no idea what’s up with Miller. Gallinari has also started to pick up some of the slack that’s been dogging him, so I’m curious to see what’s going on there.

    Morrow is gone from my league. The only notable FAs are Thompson, Hinrich, Gooden, and Butler still.

    Out of those, I’m very interested in Thompson for Gibson, and Hinrich for Miller. What would you suggest?

    Thanks!

  9. #9 by fantasy hoopster on March 8, 2010 - 10:36 am

    @Alan

    I prefer Gibson to Thompson b/c of his schedule, and also b/c it looks like Noah will be out at least the first couple weeks of the fantasy playoffs in most Yahoo leagues (and if his last return is any indication, he’ll be slow to return during the week of the fantasy finals).

    As for Hinrich/Miller, I’d probably make that move based on their play as of late. Miller is still getting big minutes but deferring to the kids. Like Gibson, Hinrich and the Bulls are playing for something.

    Thanks Steve.

    Another serious consideration I’ve been making…is actually dropping Okafur for McGee. Okafur has been terrible this season, and at least with McGee, I’ll have a nice playoff schedule and blocks.

    Would you suggest keeping him for a little bit longer and seeing what’s up? Another downside to this…would be I’d have 3 Nuggets and 3 Wizards on my team, something I’d rather avoid.

  11. #11 by fantasy hoopster on March 8, 2010 - 3:50 pm

    @Alan

    Well, as long as you’re not sacrificing too much quality, I wouldn’t mind having multiple Nuggets or Wizards (or Bulls) on my squad during the playoffs. As for Okafor and McGee, I’d slightly lean towards McGee b/c of Okafor’s inconsistency and the fact that the Hornets are sliding out of the playoff hunt. If McGee puts up another couple solid games, I’d make the move.

    Hey Steve,
    someone in my league just dropped Lou. I have T-mac on my team, i was considering dropping him for Lou. Do you see T-mac putting up big numbers in the last few weeks of the season? or do you think Lou will be a good pick up with his consistent play since taking the starting position back.

    Thanks

  13. #13 by fantasy hoopster on March 9, 2010 - 9:44 am

    @OnePiece

    I’d much prefer Lou. Things might change if AI comes back, but that’s a big if right now.

  14. #14 by Alan on March 9, 2010 - 5:04 pm

    Hey Steve,

    You should definitely mention Courtney Lee in your Week 20 pickups. He’s someone I’m debating in place of Miller. I just hate letting go of Miller because his across the board production, but lately…he needs to at LEAST take 8 shots a game for me to be somewhat happy.

    Lee/Miller/Hinrich (only one and not an easy decision).

    Okafur blew up in a big way yesterday, but that WAS against the Warriors. I’m still heavily debating McGee, and will have to observe the situation further.

  15. #15 by fantasy hoopster on March 9, 2010 - 10:09 pm

    @Alan

    Nice call on Lee. I usually try to reserve that space for players owned in less than 50% of Yahoo leagues. But, like a Carlos Delfino, Lee might have been dropped recently in many leagues and is definitely worth owning now. Feel free to comment directly on that post… otherwise, I’ll def mention him next week.

    Re: Okafor: Yup, that was against GS, which gives up the most PTS/REB and second highest FG% to opposing centers according to Rotowire. Still, he is the safer bet b/c he has a history of solid play. Just keep a close on McGee.

  16. #16 by Joe on March 10, 2010 - 6:39 am

    Morning Steve,

    Long time no chat. How was your vacation? I’m getting ready for playoffs, my playoff seeding has been set, so getting mentally prepped for playoffs. My team overall has been struggling last few weeks, but this is the team I’m going with for a championship run.

    Here’s how the roster as of today:

    -Chris Paul – PG
    -Tyreke Evans– PG/SG
    -Rashard Lewis – SF/PF
    -Kevin Garnett – PF
    -Andrew Bynum – C
    -Rajon Rando – G (PG)
    -Drew Gooden – F (PF/C)
    -Danilo Gallinari – Util (SF/PF)
    -Mo Williams – Util (PG)
    -Jason Terry – Util (PG)
    -Tayshaun Prince – Bench (SF)
    -George Hill – Bench (PG)
    -Anthony Morrow- Bench (SG/SF)

    The team guard wise is pretty strong, however the frontline is a little sketch (KG, Bynum, Lewis, Gooden), but I think my best way to win title is to conquer five categories – 3PM, assists, steals, FT%, and get one more random category. My league has 8 categories.

    What you think of the team and do any tweaks that might help during playoffs?

  17. #17 by fantasy hoopster on March 10, 2010 - 10:26 am

    @Joe

    Hey, man. It was really relaxing, thanks for asking.

    That’s a great question, and my next post (once I get to it) will be about H2H playoff strategy. I like your ’small-ball’ strategy — going for the G-centric categories and trying to snag another one (especially b/c some of your bigs, Rashard and DG, are a great fit for this strat). Also, if you think you can only win 4 cats, make sure you know what the tiebreaker rules are for your league. If it works in your favor, sometimes 4 cats is enough; otherwise you might have to win 5.

    As for that 5th category — and this might sound crazy, but I think it’s worth it if you’ve come this far — I’d look at the other team and literally tally up their projected stats for the upcoming week, based on who you think they’ll start every night. Then I’d do the same for your team and see which category among FG, PTS, REB or BLK you have the best chance at snagging. Then I’d use my add/drops to target those one or two cats you have the best shot at. Remember, they might be trying to snag one of 3PM, AST, STL or FT away from you too, so don’t neglect any of those.

    The other rule during the fantasy playoffs is: Don’t become too attached to anyone. You’ll probably see some pretty big names being dropped just for someone to add a mediocre ‘game played’ during a night with few NBA games. You probably have to hang onto CP3, but if Jason Terry hits a setback and you’re in a tight race, you might have to drop JT. (Actually, if CP3 hits a setback, you might have to cut him too.) Danilo bounced back big earlier but if T-Mac returns and DG starts struggling again, you don’t have time to wait on him. If KG is rumored to miss a game or two, I’d cut bait. Of course, it all depends on if there are legit FA’s available, but you get the idea.

    Anyway, this is a solid squad for the H2H playoffs — time to hope some of these guys catch fire while making a few strategic add/drops along the way…
